An Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP) is a mandatory certification required for individuals operating vehicles on the airside areas of YQT, which are divided into an AVOP "D/A" applicable to the airport's main apron 1, and an AVOP "D" applicable to the maneuvering areas (controlled runways and taxiways). The AVOP application process typically involves the following steps:
Eligibility Check: Ensure you meet the airport's criteria, such as being employed by an airport tenant or operator.
Training Program: Complete your company's mandatory airside safety and operational training, and study the TBIAAI's AVOP Procedures documentation, including theoretical knowledge of airport layout, regulations, and communication procedures.
Application Submission: Provide necessary documentation, including identification, proof of employment, and evidence of completed training and tests.
Written Test: Pass a written exam that evaluates your understanding of airside rules and regulations.
Practical Driving Test: Demonstrate safe and competent vehicle operation in airside areas under supervision.
Permit Issuance: Upon approval, receive your AVOP, granting authorization to operate vehicles in specific zones of the airport.
Applicants must maintain compliance with airport policies and periodically renew their AVOP as required by the Thunder Bay International Airport Authority.
